DONAL MOLONEY: NEW WORKS ON PAPER
25th August – 1st October 2016 | Open event Thursday 25th August 2016
Donal Moloney makes intricate paintings that contain fragments of images from a wide variety of sources (drawings, sculptures, digital collages, etc). Moloney transforms images from these sources through a protracted and slow process of painting, often taking more than a year to complete each piece. In doing so, he imbues these initial ‘sketches’ with something jewel-like and precious. This ‘kaleidoscope’ of glistening surfaces becomes a vehicle for his interest in mixing fantastical imagery and ambiguous narratives.
